1st Round

Inniscarra 0-9 Ballincollig 0-7

Evening Echo Match report

INNISCARRA edged out Ballincollig in this Ross Oil JAFC game played in blustery conditions in Blarney last night. This derby could have gone either way but Inniscarra’s Sean O’Donoghue landed five placed efforts which ultimately proved to be the difference. The victors started impressively and the aforementioned O’Donoghue landed an excellent opening score. Ballincollig played against the elements in the opening period and struggled to gain any traction upfront. Sean O’Donoghue converted a 45 and also clipped over a 25m free after excellent work from Tomás Ó Connor. Noonan kept his side in the game. Ballincollig registered their opening score through Brian Cronin after good play from Bryan Kelly. Two further points from David Tobin (free) and Bryan Kelly left two points between the sides. Inniscarra were then reduced to fourteen men following a red card to Tomás Ó Connor for an off the ball incident. Both sides converted placed efforts from O’Donoghue and Tobin which left Inniscarra leading by, 0-6 to 0-4 at the break. O’Donoghue knocked over a tricky free as his side increased their lead. Ballincollig’s Peter O’Neill got on plenty of ball and he put through Luke Carey Murphy for a great score. An excellent probing run from Davy Collins gifted Ballincollig another free which Ian Coughlan converted. Ballincollig enjoyed plenty of possession in the closing quarter but were quite wasteful on occasions. Sean O’Donoghue converted another placed effort after excellent play from David O’Keeffe. David Tobin reduced the gap to the minimum but Inniscarra’s Aaron O’Raw fielded a brilliant ball at midfield before powering forward to land the score of the night.

Evening Echo Match report

Canovee and Inniscarra ended in a draw after the game of the weekend in the championship. Canovee dominated the opening passages of play and looked to be cruising after leading by 0-6 0-1. However, the move of Inniscarra’s Sean O’Donoghue to centre forward completely transformed their fortunes and the Cork U21 star kicked three excellent points from play. It was a remarkable turnaround for Inniscarra and they trailed by a single point, 0-8 to 0-7 at the break. Inniscarra continued to impress after the break and O’Donoghue set up Dan O’Connell for an Inniscarra goal. Canovee’s James Moynihan got his side back in the game with some excellent play while Con Dunne was also an influential substitute. Inniscarra’s chances suffered a serious setback when Sean O’Donoghue was carried off injured with fifteen minutes left to play. A fortuitous goal from Alan Sheehan looked to have sealed the victory for them but Canovee scored a late equaliser from Moynihan to leave the side’s level, 0-15 to 2-9.

Inniscarra 0-10 Kilmichael 0-7

Evening Echo Match report

INNISCARRA are through to the Ross Oil JAFC Mid-Cork Final after edging out Kilmichael in blustery conditions at Carrigadrohid last night. The sides were level entering the final quarter but a dominant closing period ensured Inniscarra will meet Iveleary in the championship final. The victors registered the opening points courtesy of Dave Barry and Dan O’Connell. Kilmichael eventually settled and a superb brace from Daniel Twomey levelled the scoring. They went ahead following an excellent point from Cathal Foley, 0-3 to 0-2, after 17 minutes. Moments later, Daniel Twomey was denied a certain goal by a superb save from Inniscarra’s Dominic Kelleher. Further points from target man Dan O’Connell, Stephan Dornan and Paul Farmer gave Inniscarra a two-point advantage. Kilmichael replied through Peter Kelleher which reduced the gap, 0-5 to 0-4, at the break. Kilmichael introduced James O’Leary and he made an immediate impact with a placed effort. Inniscarra substitute Tomás Ó Connor gave his side the lead with a superb individual score after good work from Paul Farmer. Kilmichael’s goalkeeper Shane Masters brought off a fine save from Dan O’Connell at close range before James O’Leary landed an excellent equaliser. Inniscarra’s Sean Lynch has been in superb form lately and he edged his side in front with an excellent point from distance. Daniel Twomey equalised for Kilmichael but Lynch finished off a great team move to put his side in front. As the tension mounted in the closing stages Tomás Ó Connor clipped over a difficult free and Timmy Murphy added another to cement Inniscarra’s advantage. Kilmichael launched a couple of late forays but a resolute Inniscarra defence soaked up the pressure with great composure to secure a place in the Muskerry decider.
