Rebel Og Mid Fe-17 Division 1 Hurling Shield 2021-10-26 09:34:00

Inniscarra had a very good win over Sliabh Rua in the final of the Rebel Og Mid Fe-17 Division 1 Hurling Shield at Bishopstown last Sunday week. The game was evenly poised until the last ten minutes when an excellent goal by Ben Maher was followed by an equally brilliant goal by Sean Connolly decided the contest.


A long range point by Michael Murphy opened the scoring after a good clearance by Andrew Scannell and he followed with another point after good work by Daniel Murphy. A lovely pass from Conor Goeghan to Ben Maher resulted in a free which Michael Murphy pointed.


First half  water break Inniscarra 0 - 3, Sliabh Rua 0 - 4.


Good defending by Cillian Ryan and Andrew Scannell led to another Michael Murphy point before excellent play by Tadgh Lyons and Ross O'Donovan got the ball to Jonathan Keane and he scored a lovely point. Jonathan Keane and Ben Maher then combined to get the ball to Sean Connolly and he scored his first point.


Half Time INNISCARRA 0 - 6, SLIABH RUA 0 - 6.


Inniscarra started the second half very well and scored six points without reply, the first by Ben Maher after a good pass from Donal Dineen. A foul on Conor Goeghan led to another Michael Murphy pointed free and Ben Maher pointed after good work by David Keane and Tadgh Lyons. Brilliant defending by Liam Buckley and Conor Sheehan got the ball to Brian Lowney and he picked out Jonathan Keane who scored his second point. A pointed free by Michael Murphy after a foul on Brian Lowney was followed by Sliabh Rua goal to reduce Inniscarra lead to three points but three points in a row by Michael Murphy restored the six point lead, the first from a free after a foul on Liam Leisk, the second also from a free after the ball seemed over the line for a goal but was called back for a free, the third after a good catch from a Conor Sheehan delivery. Sliabh Rua replied with three points to leave the score at second water break, Inniscarra 0 - 15, Sliabh Rua 1 - 9.


After the restart Niall Buckley saw his first real action in goal and made two good saves , after the second he picked out Liam Buckley and his clearance was picked up by David Keane whose long clearance reached Ben Maher and he scored a point and this was followed by a well taken point by Conor Goeghan . Then came the deciding moments with a goal each by Ben Maher and Sean Connolly in quick succession after good work by Donal Dineen , Brian Lowney and Tadgh Lyons. Inniscarra were now in control and saw out the game with two Michael Murphy points.
