FE 12 P1 HURLING LEAGUE FINAL 2019-10-17 10:27:00

An excellent performance but a disappointing result for Inniscarra in the final of the Fe 12 Hurling League at Ballyanly on Sunday afternoon when they lost to Midleton by  3  -  11 to  1  -  9.  The scoreline dosen't do justice to the Inniscarra effort in what was a fantastic game of hurling with the game in the balance up to the very end with Midleton getting the last two scores of the game - both goals, to settle the contest.

Inniscarra first two scores were two pointed frees by Senan Brislane, the first when Daniel Murray was fouled as he was through on goal and the second for a foul on Darragh O'Shea as he picked up a good clearance by Alan Heelan. A lovely passage of play followed with both midfielders involved as Conor Costello scored a lovely point after being put through by a clever pass from Colm O'Herlihy. Inniscarra then took a three point lead when a clever flick by Shane Maher was finished to the net by Senan Brislane. A good catch by Colman Aherne was played upfield to Shane Maher who was fouled and Senan pointed the free.  Inniscarra had some defending to do at the end of the first half with Jack O'Mahony in superb form with some good hooks and clearances and two excellent blocks by David Enright and Conor Gould but unfortunately Midleton did get through for a goal to leave the half time score  INNISCARRA  1  -  4,  MIDLETON  1  -  5.

Inniscarra conceded two early points at the start of the second half but some excellent work by Jack Shine resulted in a pointed free by Senan Brislane. Excellent defending by David Enright and Joshua O'Sullivan got the ball to Alan Heelan and his clearance was picked up by Colm O'Herlihy who was fouled and Senan Brislane converted the free. A good save by James O'Mahony was picked up by captain Cathal Lyons who found Jack Shine with a pin point pass and his shot on goal was deflected for a 65 which Senan Brislane pointed. Another long clearance by Cathal Lyons was controlled by Jack Shine and he scored a tremendous point and a good block and clearance by Joshua O'Sullivan was picked up by Kieran Keohane who found Colman Aherne who was fouled with Senan  pointing the free. Inniscarra now trailed by two points approaching full time and had many attempts on goal but were unable to find the net. Against the run of play Midleton scored two goals in the final minutes to leave the full time score  INNISCARRA  1  -  9,  MIDLETON  3  -  11.
